Mary Alice Cooley Wingo passed into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 1, 2026, at Terra Bella of Spartanburg after a lengthy illness. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Cager Finch Wingo. She was born on June 20, 1934. She was the daughter of Barney Balus and Pauline Westbrook Cooley.
A member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, she was a member of Women's Missionary Union., Adult Life Study Group, and Young at Heart. She had volunteered with Mobile Meals for more than twenty-five years and also with Mary Black Hospital. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Battle of Cowpens Chapter and a charter member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of the Seventeenth Century, Colonel Jacob Blackwell Chapter. Her interests included traveling, gardening, calligraphy, genealogy, as well as bridge.
She is survived by her daughter, Denise Wingo Heeren and son-in-law, Steven John Heeren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Cooley Drummond and Martha Cooley Dorman.
The family gives special thanks to the staff, caregivers, and residents of Terra Bella of Spartanburg for their kind care and support.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
A cryptside service will be held at 11:30 AM, Thursday, January 8, 2026, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens - Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Brian Redding and Rev. Bob Morgan.
