Mary Whiteside

Mary Jane Whiteside, 85, of Chesnee, SC, died Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born May 15, 1936, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Mildred Guynell Gore and William H. Smith, Sr. and her late husband of 47 years, Edward Franklin Whiteside.

Mary Jane was an angel on earth to her family with her giving and humble self. She worked hard all her life. She loved and cared for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would do anything for everyone she knew. She was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Roxanne Whiteside of Chesnee, SC, her granddaughters, Priscilla Ann Sanders and Cynthia Kay Bishop of Cowpens, her grandson, James Whiteside of Spindale, NC, her great grandchildren, Taylor Peterson, Hailey Sanders, Brianna Bishop, Kerstin Bishop, Justin Sanders, Trevor Bishop, Jaxton Whiteside, Sawyer Whiteside, and Finan Whiteside, her great-great granddaughter, Nevaeh Ballenger.

She was also predeceased by her son, Frankie Whiteside Jr., her grandson, Don Russell Turner “Rusty,” and her siblings, Guynell Poteat, William H. Smith, Jr., Josephine Geddes, and Louvena Hipps.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, May 6, 2022 at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Jonathon Peterson. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, 4081 Highway 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
