Mary Sonia Ellis

September 12, 1930 — March 4, 2024

Huntsville

2 Timothy 4 : 7 – 8

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me in that day-and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."Mary Sonia Johnson Ellis of Huntsville, Alabama, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, March 4, 2024. She was born in Aiken, S.C. on September 12, 1930.

She was predeceased by her mother, Leila Anderson Johnson, father, Charles P. Johnson, brothers, Charles Johnson and Hubert Johnson, sister, Lois Johnson Porter, and a son, Donald H. Ellis Jr.

Left to treasure the memories of Sonia, are her husband of nearly 74 years, Donald H. Ellis, children Karen Jelliff (Alan), Steve Ellis (Sherri), Patricia Hart (Doug), her grandchildren Chase (Heather) Haley Fallon, Hannah Ellis (Steve Raposo), Josiah Ellis (Karolina), Jonathan Hart (Laura), Rachel Hart, Donald Ellis lll, Kimberley Johnson and five great grandchildren, Hania Farlow, Sonia, Mira, Anastasia, and Charles.

Sonia loved her Lord, husband, and family dearly. She spoke often of looking forward to going home to be with the Lord.

She also loved to sew, make crafts, and was a homemaker, and an LPN for several years yet, was always there at home, as a devoted mother for her children. She loved the Church and attended Whitesburg Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL.

Although she suffered from eyesight impairments much of her life and was completely blind the last several years, she always shined a light of grace and goodness from The Lord, and she prayed without ceasing, for everyone remaining in her family!

Amazing Grace, was first among her favorite hymns, along with, “How Great Thou Art”.

   "Amazing Grace
    How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost and now am found,
Was blind but now I see."

We rejoice that Sonia has regained her sight and now sees Jesus in heaven!
