Mary Grant

Mary Black Tolleson Grant, 91, of Fairforest, SC, joined her Savior in Heaven on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born January 31, 1925, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Rousha Whitt Tolleson. Mrs. Grant was the first baby born at Mary Black Hospital and thus became the namesake. Mrs. Grant's greatest legacy was her love for the Lord and devotion to her family. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Fairforest Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She retired from Milliken after 30 years of service and also retired as a self-employed beautician. Survivors include her husband, Calvin E. "Dutch" Grant; children, Sheila Spurlin (David) of Gaffney, SC and Tom Grant (Carolyn) of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, Steve Tate (Mari) of Atlanta, GA, Bryan Tate (Elayne) of Gaffney, SC, and Lori Wyatt (Jay) of Spartanburg, SC; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Schultz; and brother, Sanford "Buddy" Tolleson. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 PM Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Covenant Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Gary Hensley. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens, 141 Memorial Dr., Pacolet, SC 29372. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 Evangel Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. The families are at their respective homes.
