Mary Elizabeth "Lib" Mullinax

Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Brown Mullinax, 91, of Spartanburg, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Lib was loving known as "NaNa" to her family and relatives.  She was born August 19, 1934, in Spartanburg County, to the late Ellis and Jeanette Brown. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Louise Fleming, Edward Brown and Robert Brown.

Lib was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church since 1946 and was the owner of Mullinax’s Restaurant for over 48 years. She enjoyed talking with her customers and sharing her wonderful fig preserves and pickles. Most of all, Lib enjoyed spending time with her family. Sewing and baking also brought much joy to Lib, and her family too!

She was married to the love of her life, Clyde Leon Mullinax, until his death in May of 2004. Lib was the mother of three daughters, Deborah Gilmer (Terry), Rita Duckett (Robin) and Karen Burdette (Tony); grandmother of Justin Gilmer, Ashley Searcy (Joshua), Samantha Gregory (Gerald), Kelsey Burdette (John), Zachary Burdette (Brooke), Jami Trammell (Dennis) and Matthew Duckett (Kristen); great-grandmother to Lauren, Kaden, Ryder, Maverick, Samson, Raelynn, Conley (Melanie), and Jake (Kaitlin); great-great-grandmother to Matthew Walker. She is also survived by her siblings, Jimmy Brown, Wanda Hawkins and Martha Simmons.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-2:45 pm Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Bethesda Baptist Church, 799 Bethesda Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm, in the church sanctuary, conducted by The Rev. Larry Holland and Mr. Joshua Searcy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethesda Baptist Church, 799 Bethesda Road, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
