Martha & Raymond Calvert

Martha “Lib” Elizabeth Simmons Calvert, 94, passed away December 1, 2021 peacefully at her home. Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Sorrell and Myrtle Shields Simmons. Her husband of 71 years, Raymond Calvert, 95, passed away peacefully at his home December 8, 2021. Born in Fingerville, SC, he was the son of the late Ray Ashmer and Mamie Malone Calvert.

In her early years, Lib dedicated herself to raising her three children and running the household. She remained a homemaker until her children were in high school at which time, she went to work for the US Postal Service. She retired after 20 years of service.

A US Navy WWII veteran, Raymond worked for Indian Head Mills for many years before retiring. He then went to work for Converse College for several years.

They were members of Fingerville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include their son, Phil Calvert (Vicki) and their daughter, Teresa Ledbetter (Richard), many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Raymond is survived by his brothers, Tim Calvert and Corvis Calvert. They were predeceased by their son, Raymond Douglas Calvert.

Per family circumstances and their fathers request, no funeral services will be conducted.
