Martha Ann Parris Taylor, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Chesnee, South Carolina, on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after a courageous battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 7, 1943, in Spartanburg, Martha was the eldest daughter of the late Margaret Sellars Parris and Edward Allen Parris.
Martha’s life was shaped by love from the very beginning. She was blessed with the nurturing care of her maternal grandparents, Ara and Alice Sellars, and shared a remarkable 62-year marriage with the love of her life, Jerry Taylor. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and devotion. She cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, finding immense pride and happiness in her family.
A graduate of Fairforest High School, class of 1961, Martha continued her education at Cecil’s Business College. She spent 25 years in the human resources department at Hoechst Celanese Corporation, where she was admired for both her professionalism and her kindness toward colleagues. Later, she briefly worked at Flagstar (Spartan Foods) before ending her career at the family-owned business, Taylor Sports.
Martha’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a cherished member of View Church for the last decade, and for 40 years prior, she was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church. Her vibrant personality and zest for life were evident in her many passions, including bowling and square dancing, which she enjoyed with friends and family. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating beautiful memories with those she loved most.
Martha is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry E. Taylor; two sons, Jerry E. Taylor Jr. (Jennifer) and Edward E. Taylor (Heidi); grandchildren, Steven Schults, Amber Keith (Jared), Amy Clary, Whitney Taylor, Tanner Taylor (Brittany), and Ashley Cromer (Kevin); and great-grandchildren, Zachary Cromer, Ian Cromer, Luke Schults, Fallyn Keith, Chason Rhea, Beckham Keith, Landrie Keith, and Ashton Cromer.
