Mark Britanisky, 86, of Spartanburg, passed away on Monday evening, August 3, 2026, at White Oak Estates Skilled Nursing Center. Mark was born on January 6, 1940, in Mukden, Manchuria (Northeast China), a son of the late Leon and Lucy Berstan Britanisky.
Mark received his master’s degree in engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He proudly served in the US Army, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant.
He was a talented mechanical engineer. His career included developing, designing, manufacturing and installation of display systems for the retail industry.
Along with his parents, Mark was predeceased by his daughter, Lt. Col. Jeanne Hutchinson, and his sister, Rose Marie Peiser.
Mark is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Susan Ruth Abelsky Britanisky; his son, Dr. Robert Gregg Britanisky (Jennifer) of Spartanburg; his grandchildren, Hunter Britanisky of California, Laura Burchett (Mitchell) of Florida, Sarah Koch (Maj. Joshua) of Kansas, and Cpt. John Hutchinson (Lexi) of Texas; and his, great-grandchildren, Clara Burchett, Benjamin Koch, Eleanor Koch, and Camille Koch.
There will be no services held locally in Spartanburg. Mark will be buried, at a later date, in USMA West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY, alongside his daughter, Lt. Col. Jeanne Hutchinson.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in honor of Mark Britanisky be made to Congregation B’Nai Israel, 146 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302; West Point Jewish Chapel, PO Box 84, West Point, NY 10996; or to one’s favorite charity.
