Marguerite Taylor

December 1, 1924 — April 29, 2023

Marguerite Bishop Taylor, 98 years old of Spartanburg, SC passed away on Saturday evening, April 29, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Jason H. and Bertha M. Bishop and the widow of David (Jim) Taylor.

She graduated from Campobello High School in 1940.  She wed her husband in 1946 on his return from World War II.  She had been an active member of Southside Baptist Church since 1946 until blindness at the age of 90 diminished her ability to be as active as she would have liked.  She worked in the Drayton Textile Mill from 1942 to 1962, until she became a medical clerk at what was then the Spartanburg General Hospital until her retirement in 1997.   After her retirement, she remained an active member of Southside Baptist, traveled regularly with various members of her family or on her own, and volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels delivering meals to the “elderly” when she was in her 70’s into her late 80’s.  She remained as active as possible into her 90’s.

She is survived by her sister, Imogene B. Bowyer of Spartanburg, SC, and nephew, James (Jim) Bowyer of Raleigh, NC.  She is also survived by four nieces, three additional nephews, nine great nieces and nephews, and several great great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by two brothers; James Paul Bishop and John Robert Bishop; four half-brothers; Clarence, Fred, Harvey, and Joe Bishop and two half-sisters; Annie Mae Henry and Helen B. Burrell.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 12:55 pm, Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC.
