Mamie White Thompson Toney, 102 years young, of Greer, SC and formerly of Clifton, SC, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at The Cottages at Brushy Creek. Born October 10, 1913, in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John and Rachel Sprouse White. She was the widow of her first husband, Glenn Thompson and her second husband, John Toney. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mamie loved the Lord, her family and pets. A great cook, she was very strong-willed, a hard worker, and never gave up. She was retired from Clifton Manufacturing Company and attended Oakdale Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Ruby T. James Johnson (Cecil) of Campobello, SC; four grandchildren, Lynne Bright (Jim) whom she lived with for 15 years and were her caregivers for many more, Darlene Wheeler (Robert), Joy James, and Bruce James (Pam); six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Maude, Ossie Lee, and Lovie; and brothers, William, Jim, and Robert. Visitation will be 2:30-3:30 PM Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Martin Foster. The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Lynne and Jim Bright.
