Lt. Col. Brooks LeRoy Hursey, Jr., USAF Ret., 99, of Spartanburg, SC and formerly of Wrightsville Beach, NC, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Brookdale Skylyn-Spartanburg. Born July 13, 1916, in Society Hill, SC, he was the son of the late Brooks LeRoy Hursey Sr. and Florence Green Hursey and husband of the late Mary Hays Hursey. A 1934 graduate of Asheville High School, 1938 graduate of Georgia Tech, and U. S. Air Force veteran, Lt. Col. Hursey served as a Troop Carrier pilot during World War II. He also managed an apparel factory in Lexington, NC, retired from the NC Employment Commission, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Wilmington. Col. Hursey is survived by his son, Hugh Hays Hursey (Sally) of Landrum, SC; grandsons, Chris Hursey (Lisa) of Suwanee, GA, David Hursey (Jennifer) of Eclectic, AL, and John Campbell (Ali) abroad; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Anne Hursey. As Mr. Hursey's body was donated to science, a memorial service will be announced at a later date to be held at Brookdale Skylyn-Spartanburg. Interment will be in Florence National Cemetery, 803 E.
