Lawrence Davis, Jr.

September 4, 1936 — January 28, 2023

Lawrence C. “Pat” Davis, Jr. went to his eternal resting place, with the Lord, on Saturday, January 28, 2023. He was surrounded by his daughters who adored him. He was born September 4, 1936, in Shelby, NC to the late Lawrence C. Davis, Sr. and Lula Ross Davis. He was married to the late Mildred B. Davis for 46 blessed years.

Pat is survived by three daughters, Leah Plott (Greg) of West End, NC, Julie Loyd of Spartanburg, SC, and Vicki Cook (Jeff) of Moore, SC. He is also survived by his loving fiancée, Gail Rodgers of Spartanburg. He has eight grandchildren, Maria Milbourne (Ricky), Kevin Cook (Ariana), Mack Loyd (Allie), Samantha Bedwell (Jake), Payton Loyd (Victoria), Hayley Searcy (Nathan), Sydney Cook and Drew Plott (Gracie); and 16 great grandchildren who all knew him as Pop the man, the myth, the legend, and the ultimate pancake maker! He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two great-grandchildren and a special niece, Karen Bentley. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Delane Davis and Joe Davis, and a sister, Janie Kendrick.

Pat was a graduate of Wake Forest University in 1958 with a degree in Chemistry and continued to be a devoted Demon Deacon. Pat was Executive Vice President of ABCO Industries for over 20 years. He went on to form his own company, Global Resources, and continued being a mentor to many in the chemical business.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Pat was a past board member of Children’s Cancer Partners of the Carolinas, a member of Sunrise Civitan Club for 60 years and was involved with New Day Clubhouse.

He loved boating, fishing, golfing and water and snow skiing. One of his favorite places was the Marlin Quay at Murrell’s Inlet (his happy place). He enjoyed music events, plays and volunteering for Mobile Meals with his fiancée, Gail.

Pat was known for giving and never expecting anything in return, a wonderful, kind, and loyal friend to many people. He was a man of strong faith, character, honesty, integrity, and he had the unique ability to invent and amend things to improve them. He always loved hearing and telling a good joke.

Pop, as he was known by his family, was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle and he was so proud of them!
