Laurette Dickerson

Laurette R. Dickerson was born Laurette Renee Newsom on March 23, 1969, in Cleveland, Ohio to Linda Rose Newsom and the late John Wesley Newsom, Jr. She was born into an active Christian family. Laurette was a believer from an early age and attended church faithfully. She was a vital member of the church youth group.

She graduated from John Marshall High School in Cleveland as a popular and outgoing member of the Class of 1987, serving on the Executive Board of the senior class and school newspaper. She later graduated from the University of Maryland in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

After college, Laurette was employed at the U. S. Department of Commerce as an International Trade Specialist from 1991 to 2005, specializing in Taiwan trade.

She was joined in holy matrimony to Dave Dickerson, Jr. on May 8, 1999. To this union, one child was born, Dave Dickerson III.

Laurette is survived by her loving husband, Dave Dickerson, Jr., her son, Dave Dickerson, III of Inman, South Carolina, her mother, Linda Newsom of Spartanburg, South Carolina, her brother, John Wesley Newsom III (Vicky) of Queens, New York, nieces, Kristen Newsom of Queens, New York, Caitlyn Newsom of Raleigh, North Carolina, loving uncle and aunt, Lonnie and Juanita Newsom of Charlotte, North Carolina, loving aunt, Delores Watkins of Los Angeles, California, first cousins, Dawn Patton (Emil) and Ralph “Chip” Newsom of Charlotte, North Carolina, four sisters-in-law, Mary E. Brewer of Olar, South Carolina, Grace Smith-Orr (Leroy) of Savannah, Georgia, Kathy M. Hudson (John) of Olar, South Carolina, and Jacquelyn Dickerson-Ideozu (Clement) of North Charleston, South Carolina, one brother-in-law, Daniel L. Heyward of Varnville, South Carolina, nephews: Xavier Jamaal Smith of Savannah, Georgia, Daniel Maurice Heyward of Columbia, South Carolina, nieces, La Tonya Jenean Thomas (John), Heather M. Brewer of Atlanta, Georgia, Odessa A. Hudson of Conway, South Carolina, and Kari E. Ideozu of Columbia, South Carolina. Along with a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:00 PM Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Floyd’s Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy. 9 North, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by Pastor John Wesley Newsom, III.
