Judy Pless Kennedy

July 24, 1952 — May 1, 2025

Pacolet, SC

Judy McGaha Pless-Kennedy, 72, of Pacolet, South Carolina, went home to the arms of Jesus, passing peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on May 1, 2025. A devoted wife, mother, Granna and woman of God, her life was a testament to love, service, and commitment to others.

Born and raised in Pacolet Mills, she was the daughter of the late Harry O. McGaha and Ruby Phillips McGaha. Judy graduated from Pacolet High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from Limestone College, followed by both a Master's and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of South Carolina. She dedicated 38 years to public education, touching countless lives through her teaching, coaching, mentorship, and leadership. During her tenure of school counseling, she was awarded the South Carolina School Counselor of the Year award given by the South Carolina Association of School Counselors.

Judy was a faithful member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, led the children’s choir and served as Minister of Music for 25 years. Her passion for music and ministry brought joy and inspiration to generations of worshippers and community members, and her faith in Jesus was the guiding light in her life.

She was married to her husband, Don Kennedy, for 35 years. She was the proud mother of David Allen Pless, Jr. (Crystal) and Carrie Pless Wilson (Chris), and the adoring Granna of Delaney Pless, Caleb Pless, Harrison Wilson, and Grayson Wilson—who were, without question, the loves of her life. Time spent with her grandchildren was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment with them. Granna never missed a moment to support her grandchildren; she was a constant presence at their games, events, school plays, and every milestone. Her encouragement, pride, and love were felt in every cheer and every hug.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, the Reverend Michael McGaha. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her sister, Sue McGaha Teaster, and special cousin, Carolyn Wilkins Hodge, as well as many other extended family members and dear friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness.

Judy cherished her lifelong friendships with Debby Byars, Charlene Carrigan, and Dianne Williamson—bonds that brought joy, laughter, and unconditional love through every season of life. She also held a deep affection for her neighbors on Elizabeth Street, who became like family over the years.

Judy was also an avid supporter of the South Carolina Gamecocks. She loved attending football games and was a devoted fan of the Lady Gamecocks basketball team, rarely missing a chance to cheer them on.

Judy’s legacy is one of love, faith, music, education, and loyalty. Her vibrant spirit, infectious laugh, and deep-rooted devotion to her family, faith, and community will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
