Jonathan A. Foy, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and friendly demeanor. It is with heavy hearts that we announce his untimely passing on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at his home.

Jonathan (Jon) was born in Greenville, SC, on May 10, 1958, to the late, Anthon Leroy Foy and Virginia Foy Thomson. Losing his father at four months of age, his mother married the late James C. Thomson in 1963, who served as a stepfather and mentor to Jon. Growing up in a loving home, Jon developed a strong sense of family values that he carried with him throughout his life. After completing his education at Greenville High School and Erskine College, Jon followed his passion for outdoor leadership by working at YMCA Camp Greenville for ten years starting as a counselor and working his way up to Assistant Camp Director. His dedication and impact at Camp Greenville left a legacy that continues to influence campers and staff to this day.

Known as a selfless leader who never met a stranger, Jon cherished the connections he made with people from all walks of life. His warm smile, kind words, witty sense of humor, and fun personality brightened the lives of all those around him.

After moving to Atlanta, Jon pursued a career as an insurance underwriter and auditor. His keen eye for detail and dedication earned him the respect of colleagues and clients alike. Jon excelled in his profession, retiring after 30 years.

While Jon accomplished much in his career, it was his genuine care for others that truly set him apart.  In his spare time, Jon found joy in giving back to his community by dedicating himself to volunteering with Mobile Meals and a local pet rescue. Jon also had a passion for the outdoors which he lived out by walking, hiking, and seeking new and exciting adventures.

Jon’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew him best. In the words of his children, Jon was the most loving and supportive father that always put his family above everything else in his life.  He is survived by his devoted daughter, Emily Foy Fessler (Brandon), loving son, Andrew Foy (Molly), cherished grandsons, Cooper Foy and Jacob Foy, caring brother, David Foy (Patricia), and adored nephews, Christopher Foy (Allison) and Robert Foy (Kristen).

A visitation will be held to honor Jon’s memory on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
