Johnnie Thomas

Mr. Johnnie Eugene Thomas, 86, of Cowpens, SC passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Born, October 21, 1936, in York, SC, he was the son of the late Eva Thomas Hull and her husband, Carmie Hull.

Mr. Thomas served the state of SC as a Highway Patrolman for 30 years; and is a Veteran of the United States Army, having served two years.  Mr. Thomas was very active in the community, where he was also a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Spartanburg.

He had many interests, but the outdoors was where he loved to be, whether fishing or spending time with his family on camping trips.  Mr. Thomas was also an avid gardener.  One of Mr. Thomas' notable qualities, you always knew where you stood with him.

Survivors include his daughter, Eva T. Jobin (Tom) of Bakersville, NC; his son, Lee Thomas (Laura Sharpe) of Irmo, SC; grandson, Evan Payne (Raeann) of Gaffney; great grand-children, Rhiannon and Salem Payne; and his extended family, the SC State Highway Patrol.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:45 PM on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at the Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S. Pine, St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steven R. Owensby.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Mr. Thomas, the family requests donations be made to the SC Law Enforcement Officers Association, 4921 Broad River Road, Suite A, Columbia, SC 29212.
