John Pierce Goodwin, Jr., 75, a lifelong resident of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, after a long illness.

John was the son of the late John Pierce Goodwin, Sr. and Marjorie Eva Reid Goodwin. He was beloved by Jayne Madge Batchelor for nearly 25 years. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Ann Goodwin (Beth).

John is survived by his children Catherine Goodwin Bakema (Sean), Reid Pierce Goodwin; his grandchildren Jameson Pierce Goodwin and Everly Cole Goodwin; his sister Kathy Lea Goodwin Allen (Dale); and his niece Lea Elizabeth Allen Harrison (Hal).

John was a lifelong member of Second Presbyterian Church. He was a 1967 graduate of Spartanburg High School, received his BS degree from Limestone College, and M.Ed degree from Converse College. He was a retired teacher from Spartanburg District Two Schools, teaching the majority of his time at Boiling Springs Middle School.

John served with the South Carolina Army National Guard as a member of Service Battery 1/178 Field Artillery and received an honorable discharge in 1977.

John devoted his entire life to his family and adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed rebuilding antique cars and watching NASCAR and sports.

The family will greet friends Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 1:00-1:45 pm at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm.
