John Arthur Fowler, Jr, 72, passed away Wednesday April 26, 2023, peacefully at his home. Born August 10, 1950, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Virginia Ruth Burch Fowler and John Arthur “Art” Fowler, Sr. He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Fowler of Panama City Beach, Florida.
Mr. Fowler was a graduate of Cowpens High School, Class of ’69 and Gardner Webb College. Receiving a BS Degree in Special Education, he worked in this field for many years as a teacher. He was employed by Rutherford County schools as well as the SCSDB in this capacity.
John was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Greenville, SC, as well as a US Navy Veteran.
John was a well-known and gifted pianist that shared his musical education and talent through weddings, funerals, and charity events. He was very much a “people person”. He was selfless, kind and always shared his laughter and joy with others.
John is survived by his sister, Cheryl Fowler of the home; a brother, Roger Strickland, a nephew, Pete Fowler; a niece, Ginger Fowler Evans; a sister-in-law, Gail Linder Fowler. Survivors also include cousins, Dr. Earl Burch (Scooty), and Christopher Burch (Cariza), three great-nephews and one great-niece.
Pall bearers to be Roger Strickland, Dan Emory, Tim Emory, Dana Lytle, and Wayne Gilbert.
Visitation will be at 1:00-1:45pm, Sunday, April 30, 2023 in Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel. The Funeral service/Committal with Military Honors by American Legion Post #28 will begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by Mr. Pete Fowler.
