John Donald “J.D.” Bailey, 90, of Spartanburg, passed away on Saturday evening, August 8, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. John was born on August 9, 1935, a son of the late James Ernest and Nellie Roberts Bailey.
John was a proud veteran of the US Army and served two years in Germany. He was a body shop technician for over 30 years with Wakefield Buick.
Surviving is his wife of over 68 years, Barbara Geraldine “Doodle” Lanford Bailey; his daughter, Robin Blackwell (Mike) of Pauline, SC; his son, Donald Bailey of Moore, SC; 5 grandchildren, Hunter Blackwell (Haley), Aften Beeler (John), Shawn Bailey (Abigail), Kristen Exum (Junior), and Daniel Bailey (Katelyn); 6 great-grandchildren, Addie, Easton, Gunner, McKenzie, J.D., and Alli Grace; and his sister, Betty Bridgeman of Conway, SC.
Along with his parents, John was predeceased by his siblings, Bobbie, Paul, Jack, Harold, Bill, and two infants; his brothers-in-law, Mickey and Reggie; and his sisters-in-law, Fonda, Elaine, and Winkie.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of John Donald Bailey will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
