Joel Drake Ball

Joel Drake Ball, 68, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born on February 28, 1955, in Rock Hill, SC, he was the youngest son of the late Rev. Dr. William L Ball, Jr., and Bessie Rice Ball.

Joe was a special child of God and lived for over thirty years in a community residential home affiliated with the Charles Lea Center. He is survived by his brothers, William L. Ball III of Alexandria, Va., Terrell Ball of Spartanburg, David Ball of Franklin, TN., and a sister, Betsy Ball of Spartanburg.

Joe loved all kinds of music from rock and roll to Motown. His rock steady rhythm rivaled that of any metronome, and he enjoyed dancing to many genres of music. Joe loved spending time with friends and family, eating pound cake and ice cream and spent many happy childhood summers at Camp Hope.

The Ball family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Robin Court for the loving care of their brother, Joe.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon to 12:30 pm Monday, November 20,2023, at Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Dr., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm, in the William L. Ball, Jr. Chapel of Fernwood Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright. A private interment service will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Charles Lea Center Foundation, 195 Burdette Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
