The Rev. Joaquin Enrique “Jack” Polin, 59, of Spartanburg, was promoted to Glory on Wednesday afternoon, January 7, 2026. Jack was born December 3, 1966, in Cuba, to the late Julio E. and Sara Vazquez Polin.
Jack’s family migrated to the United States when he was 10 months old. He grew up in Elizabeth, NJ, and later lived in upstate New York, where he pastored several churches. In 2017, Jack moved to Spartanburg, SC. He was a member of the SC United Methodist Conference and was serving as pastor of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church.
Jack was always seeking to gain new knowledge by reading books, journals, and researching the internet. Animals were a source of comfort and peace for Jack and he loved them deeply.
Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Deborah Farrell Polin; a brother, Julio Cesar “J.C.” Polin and sister-in-law, Leigh of Metuchen, NJ; a niece, Melissa; a nephew, Michael; cousins, Rene and Maria Polin; 3 great-nephews; 2 great-nieces; a step-son, Donald Durland (Brittany) and their son, Dominic, and 1 other step-son; his loving canine companion, Sheamus; and his faithful feline friend, Simon.
A funeral service to honor God and celebrate the life of Jack will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church, 7400 Lone Oak Boulevard, Spartanburg, SC 29303, conducted by the Rev. Cathy Mitchell and Mr. Hugh Culbreth. Visitation will follow the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church, 7400 Lone Oak Boulevard, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
