Joan Moore Floyd

November 20, 1950 — November 15, 2023

Greer, SC

Joan Floyd was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, who she so faithfully served, on November 15, 2023, surrounded by her family and friends. Born on November 20, 1950, she was the daughter of Floyd and Alice Moore. As a child, it was her dream and desire to become a nurse. After graduating from Pacolet High School, she entered nursing school at USC. Her nursing career spanned 48 years, where she worked at Lake City Hospital, Doctors Memorial Hospital as a Nurse Supervisor, Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, and Lung and Chest Medical Associates as a nurse to Dr. Wilson Smith. She retired in 2018 but continued caring for family and friends by helping them navigate their own health journeys. Her family, friends, and neighbors depended on Joan for her medical expertise.

Joan was a talented singer. She sang in the choir at Praise Cathedral, where she was a member, and used her talent to minister in nursing home services. Joan and her two sisters, always referred to as “The Moore Sisters”, sang in church and for many family occasions. Music was always a part of her life. She would frequently visit her friends and neighbors to share a special song the Lord had placed on her heart for them to hear. She was a loving wife, devoted to her husband Marvin, the best Mother and Mimi, a most treasured sister, and one of a kind Joanie to her nieces and nephews. She was a treasured friend to many and loved by everyone. Her infectious laugh and deep love will be missed by all.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents and leaves behind her husband Marvin; her precious daughter, Amy Stevens (John); her bonus children, Scottie Floyd (Stella) and Angie White (Dave); her grandchildren, Hunter Stevens, Claire Stevens, Kaleigh Foster, Ethan Floyd, Ava Floyd, Silas Floyd, Ruby Floyd, and Joseph Floyd; her great-grandchildren, Aiden Foster and Cohen Foster; her sisters, Nancy Dellinger (Jack) and Sharon Burkhead (Johnny);  niece and nephews, Megan Putnam (Chad), Benjamin Dellinger (Lyn), and Zachary Potter; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Praise Cathedral, 3390 Brushy Creek Road, Greer, SC 29650. A service to celebrate and honor Joan’s life will follow at 3:00 p.m., conducted by Pastor Jerry Madden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607, or online at www.samaritanspurse.org/donate or to Miracle Hill Ministries, 490 S. Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, SC 29607 or online at www.miraclehill.org/give
