Obituary

Jerry Tillman Johnson, Sr., 79, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Sunday, July 5, 2026.

Born on May 28, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Jerry was the son of the late Herbert Bureau Johnson and Gladys Ethel Cash Johnson.

Jerry dedicated his career to the printing industry, where he worked as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a faithful, dependable, and hardworking man whose integrity and quiet strength earned the respect of everyone who knew him. Jerry was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Above all, Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was the greatest blessing of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them and making memories together at the family lake house.

An outdoorsman at heart, Jerry had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and spending time in God's creation. He loved traveling and enjoyed countless days at Flatwoods Hunting Club. He believed in teaching his children the values they would need throughout life hard work, honesty, respect, responsibility, and the importance of family. Those lessons became part of his enduring legacy.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by siblings: his brothers: Norman Johnson and Clyde Johnson; his sisters: Sarah Donahoo, Brenda Watkins, Margie Moore, Emma Mabry, Teresa Turner and Shelby Cole.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, JoAnn Davis Johnson of 60 years; his children: Cindy Rollins (David), Sonia McFalls (Scott), Sandy Seay (Brian), and Jerry Johnson (Bridget); his grandchildren: Ashley, Hunter, Savannah, Austin, Nick, Ethan, Jesse, Alexis, Bella, Eli, and Elaina; great-grandchildren: Presley, Easton, Waylon, Hudson, Emerson, Kinsley, and Elsie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members.

His legacy lives on through the values he instilled in his family, the traditions he passed down, and the love that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday July 10, 206 at Fairview Baptist Church with visitation prior at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.

The family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Mission Fund at Fairview Baptist Church in honor of Jerry’s life and faith.
