Janet Elaine Cash Ward passed away in the early hours of Thursday, August 17, 2023, at White Oak Estates. Born April 29, 1942, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the oldest daughter of 5 children. She is predeceased by her parents, George Henry Cash and Leanna Talmadge Coates Cash McConnell. Janet is also predeceased by her husband, Boyce Kenneth Ward and her youngest son, Richard Alan Ward, Sr, a brother, Kenneth Cash and a sister, Pamela Cash Keenan. Surviving are her children, Kim Ward, Robert Ward, Kristi Ward (Brandi Dice), many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her brother Allen Cash (Paulding, Georgia), her sister, Sharon Cash Ingraham (Spartanburg) and her long-time best friend, Sandra Dalton (Spartanburg) along with many nieces and nephews. Many people knew her as Granny or Nanny and she proudly accepted those titles from anyone.
Being a military wife and having an active-duty spouse that was away quite often, she raised 4 children and was able to see quite a bit of the United States. After her husband retired, they moved back to Spartanburg where she was ‘Head of People Operations’ in the home. As her children got older, she worked at Darryl Floyds Sandwich Shop in the Montgomery Building, Harris Teeter, Publix and also at Roland Management before retiring to help care for her ailing mother and husband.
Some of Janet’s hobbies included tending her flowers, shag dancing and line dancing and watching a lot of 90-Day Fiancé and Dr. Phil and drinking her favorite soda, Coca Cola. She cherished spending time with her family and her great-grandchildren were her heart.
If you were lucky enough to have ever been invited to eat some of Janet’s famous biscuits and gravy, consider yourself privileged.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Janet’s children are involved with a local HIV/AIDS organization and would like memorials to be made to Piedmont Care, Inc. 101 North Pine Street, Suite 200, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
The family will be at their respective homes.
