James Michael “Mike” Henson, 73, of Roebuck, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday May 26, 2026. He was born on August 6, 1952, in Fayetteville, North Carolina to the late James William Henson and Helen Henson Whiteside.
Mike was an avid hunter and a devoted family man. He dearly loved his grandsons and treasured every moment spent with them. Known as a true people person, Mike never met a stranger and was loved for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. He was a funny man who could always make others smile.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was self-employed for many years in the construction industry and took pride in his hard work and dedication. Although he grew up in Florida, he made his final home in South Carolina. Mike was a faithful member of Church At The Mill.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Vickie Gault Henson; his sons: Shane Henson (Stephanie) of Pauline, South Carolina, and Joshua Henson of Roebuck, South Carolina; his grandsons: Lance Henson, Drew Henson, and Nathan Henson; his brother, Roger Henson of Missouri; and his mother-in-love, Pearl "Granny" Gault of Adamsburg, South Carolina; his sisters-in-law: Sheila Henson of Woodruff, South Carolina and Debbie Horne (Donald) of Jonesville, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Billy Gault of Adamsburg, South Carolina. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Zoey.
In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother, Jim Henson, and his sister, Debbie Hendricks.
A visitation will be held from 11:30 to 12:45 PM on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service to honor Mike’s life will follow at 1:00 PM, Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will cherish the many memories shared with Mike and will forever hold him close in their hearts.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel.
