James Huston Jones, Sr.
July 7, 1942 � June 16, 2026
James Huston Jones, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, after a brief battle with leukemia.
Jim lived a life defined by hard work, service, and devotion to family. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio University and later received his MBA from the University of Michigan. Following graduation, he joined Ford Motor Company, where he contributed to the development of the iconic Mustang.
Over the course of his career, Jim spent more than 20 years working with architectural and engineering firms in the Detroit, Michigan, and Spartanburg, South Carolina, areas. He later became a residential home builder, a profession he enjoyed for more than 25 years. His craftsmanship, integrity, and attention to detail earned him the respect of colleagues, clients, and friends alike.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jim had a particular passion for baseball. He coached his sons� baseball teams for many years and treasured the time spent on the field with them. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan who loved attending games with family and friends, often planning his schedule around Braves games and broadcasts.
Jim was also dedicated to serving his community. He worked with local charitable organizations to repair and improve homes for individuals and families in need throughout Spartanburg County. He found great satisfaction in using his skills to help others and improve the lives of those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Harry Jones; his brother, Terry K. Jones; and his son-in-law, Ron Wright.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Suzi Jones; his sons, James Huston Jones, Jr. (Cathy) and Gregory Richard Jones (Kathy); and his daughter, Georgi Jones Wright. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Andrew Jones, Justin Jones (Natalie), Perry Jones (Efi), Huston Jones, Joshua Wright, and Nicholas Wright; and by his great-granddaughter, Sadie Jones.
Jim will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering dedication to his family, his love of baseball, and his willingness to help others. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the homes he built, and the family he cherished.
The family will receive friends between 4:00 � 6:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Floyd�s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The Catholic funeral service to honor Jim's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at St. Paul's Historic Catholic Church, 161 N. Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. Deacon Bob Mahaffey will officiate the service.
