 James Nixon Dobey Jr., affectionately known as "Nick” 83, passed away Thursday, April 04,2024 in Greenville, South Carolina, after battling a long illness. He was born a New Years baby on January 1, 1941, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late James Nixon Dobey Sr. & Rebecca Lee Dobey.

Nick was an esteemed alumni of Clemson University and served his country with honor in the US Navy during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1969. His service was recognized with prestigious awards including: the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. Outside of his military endeavors Nick pursued a twenty-eight-year career with Duke Energy, working at the Oconee Nuclear Powerplant. Nick also pursued various interests that brought him great joy. He found solace in running marathons, cycling, even participating in “the Paris Brest Cycle Race”, and passionately followed Clemson Football. His commitment to cycling was particularly notable, as he achieved the title of being second in the State of South Carolina for the longest cyclist and made a remarkable twenty-nine-year consecutive journey to the peak of Mt. Mitchell. Nick's enthusiasm for life extended beyond his hobbies as he cherished spending time at the VFW lodge with friends and fellow veterans. His dedication to both his personal pursuits and his comrades was truly admirable.

He is survived by his son; James Nixon Dobey III "Trey", a brother Henry Dobey, nieces; Deborah Dobey, and Tiffany Gobillot (Fred). He was predeceased by his father James Nixon Dobey Sr. and mother Rebecca Lee Dobey.

 A graveside service with Military honors will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road Spartanburg, South Carolina 29307.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to "The Wounded Warriors Project", PO Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675 or by phone by calling 855-448-3997.
