James "Curly"

James Duran McArthur "Curly", 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at his home. Born April 9, 1928, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late William Ellis McArthur and Ruby Estelle West and husband of the late Matrel Nettie Simmons McArthur. A U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. McArthur was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church. He retired from USCS as Physical Plant Supervisor after 18 years of service. He was also a farmer and cattleman and loved his pets, Sarge and Cinnamon. Survivors include his daughters, Glenda McArthur and Connie McNeely of the home (Stanley McNeely of Glenn Springs, SC), Sherri Harvey (Billy) of Pauline, SC, and Terri Rollins (Steve) and of Spartanburg, SC; 6 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his grandson, Brooks Rollins; brothers, Julian McArthur, Joe McArthur, and Earl McArthur; and sisters, Elsie Taylor and Nanny Casey. A graveside service, with military honors, will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 16, 2019, in Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 853 Sulphur Springs Rd., Jonesville, SC 29353, by The Rev. Richard Dickson. Visitation will follow in the church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sulphur Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 247, Pauline, SC 29374.
