James Arthur Adams, Jr a resident of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the age of ninety-seven.
James was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, the son of the late James Arthur Adams, Sr and the late Mildred Pritchette Adams. He was also preceded in death by a son: James Reed Adams; and a daughter: Gretchen Amelia Adams.
James served his country honorable in the United States Army Medical Corp during the Korean War. He was stationed for two years at Fort Jackson. He was a 1950 graduate from Wofford College with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He had a successful career as a chemist with Springs Industries and retired after many years of dedicated employment. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Spartanburg. He was a modest and private man with a loving heart. He was also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of forty-six years: Michelle Barbier Adams; a daughter: Margaret Jennifer Adams Cook (Larry); two sons: Edward Timothy Adams (Ellen) and Anthony Eric Dobson (Taska); two sisters: Peggy Jean Piccoli and Jenny Banks Marks. Three grandchildren: Shai Adams-Gibson (Robbie), Tommy Weaver, and Summer Huddleston (Trevor); five great grandchildren: Matthew Adams Gibson, Hayden Thornton (Jacob), Mason Adams, Nolan McElrath, and Amelia Huddleston;, and one great-great grandchild; Halo Adams-Gibson also survives.
A graveside service to honor the life of James Arthur Adams, Jr will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 10, 2025, at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens- Spanish Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The Reverend Sean Fortner will officiate the service with military honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guards.
The memories of James will continue to live for years to come in the hearts of all that knew and loved him.
The arrangements are entrusted into the care of Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel.
