Irene Julia Turocy Kocisko

Irene Julia Turocy Kocisko, 103, went home to be with the Lord on September 2, 2026, and joined her late husband Joseph Steven Kocisko. Both were born in Cleveland, Ohio, and were married during WWII while Joe served in the US Army Air Corps. While serving they lived in Savanah, Georgia, and Merced, California. They returned to northeast Ohio where they raised two children, Kathryn Bartholomew (Duane) and Susan Wiegand (Dennis). In addition to her daughters, she is survived by grandchildren Ryan Bartholomew (Angie) of Burton, Ohio, and Scott Bartholomew (Mary) of Woodruff, SC. She was blessed with three great grandchildren; Dylan Bartholomew, Michael Bartholomew (Katie), and Tyler Dandridge (Katlyn) who blessed her with 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers Joseph Turocy and Andrew Turocy.

Irene was a talented businesswoman who co-owned an automotive business with her husband in Ohio. She and Joe moved to Sanford, NC, in the early 1970’s where they both continued careers. She managed the NC State License Bureau agency in Sanford until the mid-1980’s. Upon retiring the couple began traveling extensively. Irene relocated to South Carolina in 2001 to be near family. She loved golfing, crossword puzzles, reading, gardening, and playing cards. Throughout her life she enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts, schools, the Red Cross, her local hospital, singing in choirs, and above all her church.

Irene’s devotion and love for her family never wavered. Having family gatherings was her joy. Maintaining life-long connections with friends was of utmost importance to her. Upon turning 100, she visited her dear friend Florence (then age 98) in Neodesha, Kansas, having remained close since WWII Army days when their husbands served together in the Army.

The family will receive friends between 1:30 – 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, September 12th, 2026, prior to the 3:00 p.m. funeral service at Joy Lutheran Church, 3980 Moore-Duncan Hwy, Moore, SC 29369. Pastor Andrew Isenhower will be officiating. Her family will lay her to rest at Lee Memory Gardens, 2600 Hawkins Ave, Sanford, NC 27330, on Monday, September 14th beside her loving husband.
