Homer Cullen Reed Jr, 95, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully on October 21, 2025. Cullen was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 27, 1930, to the late Agnes Clement Reed and Homer Cullen Reed, Sr. Along with his parents, Cullen was predeceased by his beloved wife Janet Pierce Reed, and his sister Elizabeth Reed Greene. Cullen was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School-Class of 1947. Cullen married the love of his life, Janet Pierce Reed, on June 23, 1951. Janet and Cullen met while playing in a neighborhood sand pile at the age of 8 and 9 years old. They were lifelong sweethearts, married for over 72 years. Together they shared a love for spending time at the beach.
Cullen was a home builder, owner of Reed Construction, and served as President of the Home Builders Association of Spartanburg. He was also partners in Reed and Young Realty and Allied Enterprise, a development company.
Cullen loved his two children, Len and Susan and was the proud grandfather to four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, all of whom loved him dearly.
Cullen is survived by his son Homer Cullen {Len} Reed, III (Becky), daughter Susan Lorainne Reed, and grandchildren Homer Cullen Reed, IV (Lindsey), Garrett Pierce Reed (Allison), Courtney Reed Martin (Connor), Maxwell Wolfgang Reichard, and four great-grandchildren, Emerson, Evan, Hadley and Adaline Reed. He is also survived by his siblings Shirley Anne Reed North, Julian Myers Reed (Beverly) and Agnes Reed Martin and dearly loved nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held November 15, 2025 in the Sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg at 12:00 noon. Visitation with family will be after the service in the Perrin room and Courtyard at the church.
A private inurnment service will be held for the family at 11:00.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cullen Reed may be made to Mobile Meals of Spartanburg, First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of your choice.
