Hazel Elizabeth McBee McCarter

August 8, 1933 — October 24, 2025

Murrells Inlet, SC

Hazel Elizabeth McBee McCarter, 92, of Murrells Inlet, SC, and formally of Spartanburg and Greenwood, SC passed away peacefully at NHC Healthcare of Garden City on Friday, October 24, 2025. Hazel was born in Spartanburg, SC to the late Robert Leonard and Gladys Wyatt McBee.

In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her loving husband, George “Mac” Ray McCarter and her son, George Ray McCarter, Jr.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Wanda McCarter Edge (Perry Thomas Edge) of Pawleys Island, SC; grandson, Cameron Thomas McCarter Edge (Katherine Bryant) of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughters, Katherine Elizabeth McCarter Edge Tribble (Reid Warren) of Columbia, SC and Callie Marie McCarter Lowry (Josh Hayden), of Pauline, SC; great grandchildren, Carter and Palmer Edge, Mary Thomas and Pride Tribble, and Tucker Lowry; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Tootie, aka Hazel, was raised in Clifton, SC, as the baby of six. She embraced the country life. Gardening, fishing, and visiting nearby family and friends were some of her favorite past times. At least once a year, she and dad took to the road to visit his family in Kentucky, IL, and IN. After her retirement from Arrow Automotive Industries, she and dad moved to their Lake Greenwood home permanently. There, they lived lake life with boating and fishing. The lake place was always open for family and friends to come stay awhile. They threw a big family reunion on the Fourth of July for many years. Tootie loved to read, garden, and go fishing and boating. She belonged to several Baptist churches and the Order of the Eastern Star.

In 2004, Hazel and Mac, with Wanda and Tom, bought a house in Pawleys Island where they truly enjoyed their Golden Years living on the coast. She had always loved the beach, so it was a dream come true for her. They loved their neighbors and enjoyed family and friends coming for visits. Hazel was one of a kind, who loved to argue and be in charge, but her heart was huge, and everyone loved spending time with her. Our little “Spitfire” will be sorely missed, but she is back with her Mac, and Jesus sure has His hands full.
