Harry Dowis

Harry Lipscomb Dowis, 80, of Cowpens, SC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Born November 26, 1942 in Cowpens, he was the son of the late John Wesley Dowis, Sr. and Lucille Lipscomb Dowis.

Mr. Dowis was a volunteer fireman at Cowpens Fire Department, a scout leader and a little league baseball coach for years. He retired from Piggly Wiggly in Cowpens. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cowpens all of his life and a fixture in the Cowpens community.

Survivors include his brother, Jack Dowis (Maxine); sister-in-law, Brenda Dowis, and many nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by his sister, Ann Dowis Black and his brothers, John Wesley Dowis, Jr. and Robert “Bobby” Dowis.

Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Cowpens, 108 West Church Street, Cowpens, SC 29330. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Kermit Morris.  Burial will be in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens, 175 Cemetery Street, Cowpens, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Cowpens Building Fund, P. O. Drawer H, Cowpens, SC 29330 or to  Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
