Grant Estep

Grant Edgar Estep, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at RoseCrest of Inman. Born September 11, 1927 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Leslie G. and Ruth M. Estep. Mr. Estep was a 1945 graduate of Lyons Township High School, LaGrange, IL, and he earned the Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Michigan State University in 1950. He served in World War II with the Army Air Corps 31st Weather Squadron at Hickham Field, Hawaii, and Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands. He was employed by Reynolds Metals, McCook, IL; International Harvester, Broadview, IL; and was co-owner and operator of Largo Lumber, Inc., Largo, FL for 36 years. Mr. Estep has been long remembered as one of the most generous and friendly business owners in the area and he was the neighborhood fix-it man for everything. Mr. Estep was a longtime member and trustee of First United Methodist Church, Largo, FL; and more recently St. James United Methodist Church, Spartanburg, SC; and First Presbyterian Church, Spartanburg, SC. He was a member of the Largo Kiwanis Club, Scoutmaster of Troop 12 in Largo, and president of the Greater Largo Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Barbara Walker Estep of Eden Terrace, Spartanburg, SC; sons, Tom E. Estep (Loretta) of Carrolton, VA and Neal E. Estep (Carolyn) of Waxhaw, NC; daughter, Janet Ruth Estep Kuntz (Jeff) of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Todd A. Estep of Chesterfield, VA, Andrew N. Estep (Olivia) of Charlotte, NC, J. Elliot Estep of Waxhaw, NC, and John R. Kuntz of Spartanburg, SC; granddaughter, Michelle N. Estep of Chesterfield, VA; and great-grandson, Owen A. Estep. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John L. Estep; and a grandson, Jacob E. Kuntz. A memorial service, celebrating Grant Estep's life, will be conducted at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 29, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church Spartanburg, by The Rev. Joanne Hull. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Music Fund, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to your favorite charity.
