Gladys Roubion Hudgens

Gladys Roubion Hudgens, 93, beloved mother to 2 children, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully in Charleston, SC on September 16, 2025.

She was born in Grand Isle, Louisiana in 1932 to Francis Elizabeth Clarke Roubion and Clement Roubion. Following the death of her father during the great depression she attended the MacDonell French Mission School in Houma, Louisiana. Subsequently, she and her mother moved to Easley, SC. Gladys graduated from Easley High School and the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. On graduation from nursing school, she was made night supervisor at “old” Roper Hospital in Charleston. Ultimately moving to Spartanburg, she was a long-time member of Central UMC where she enjoyed playing handbells. She had a long career as a teacher at Spartanburg Technical College where she was strict, but fair, and enjoyed conducting and coordinating the college Christmas choir each year.

Gladys was a devoted wife to Bob and mother to Bobby and David.

Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Robert Hudgens, M.D.; her son, William Robert Hudgens, Jr.; her brother, Jack Roubion; her half-brother, Harry Hafers; and her half-sister, Mary Hafers. She is survived by her son, David and his wife Donna; grandchildren, Shawn Simons, Erin Hudgens and Claire D’Auria and her husband, Christopher; great- grandchildren, Edie Hamilton and Andrew and James D’Auria who will never forget the love she brought to their lives; and her daughter-in-law, Angie Wyatt.

Visitation will be held 11:30 am – 12:30 pm Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, in the Church Sanctuary. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, at 2:00PM.

Serving as pallbearers will be Shawn Simons, Christopher D’Auria, Steven Fernandes, Michael Rowell, David Berry, and Jude Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 233 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
