Gerald Holmes

Gerald Holland "G. H." Holmes, 82, of Jacksonville, FL, died Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Mayo Clinic-Jacksonville, FL. Born August 23, 1931, in Pacolet, SC, he was the son of the late Jerry Harold and Lucille Holland Holmes. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Holmes was a longshoreman, employed by International Longshoremen Association Local 1593, for 10 years. He received his Associates Degree from Spartanburg Methodist College, was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, and a Mason. Survivors include his son, Keith Holmes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Kyle Holmes (Serena) of Germany, and Raymi Jackson of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Kylie Holmes and Rosie Jackson; sister, Marguerite Baughn (David) of Spartanburg, SC; and his former wife and friend, Tammy Harris of Georgia. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Delton Holmes, and a sister, Susan H. Messer. Visitation will be 11:00-11:45 AM Monday, September 9, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 noon, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Hensley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice in his honor.
