Frederick Montague "Monty" Foster, III,  passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was born on April 29,1940, in Hayward, California.  He was a son of the late Frederick Montague Foster, Jr. and Abigail White Cecil Foster.

Monty's quest for education led him to attend Wofford College and Clemson University, where he honed his skills and knowledge. Monty's commitment to learning was admirable and reflected in his successful career.  Monty was employed by the City of Spartanburg, serving as a Manager at Spartanburg Public Water Works and later retired from the same position.

Monty served in the United States Army.  His military travels took him to Germany and other places around the world.  He was a patriot during the rest of his life, honoring the flag he served under.

Outside of his professional life, Monty found joy in various hobbies and interests. He cherished sporting events and spent countless hours participating and watching golf, tennis, and was an avid Clemson Football fan. However, his true love was fishing. As an avid Fly Fisherman, Monty traveled far and wide to pursue his passion. From the lakes of North and South Carolina to the rivers of Wyoming and Argentina, he found solace in nature's beauty. Additionally, he enjoyed spending time hunting in the woods.

As a brother and uncle, Monty was known for his unwavering support and love towards his family. He shared a special bond with his sister, Gail Foster Boalt, and her husband, David of Mauldin, SC. His niece, Nancy Robinson, great-nieces, Taylor Robinson and Tori Bassett, as well as two great-great-nieces,  Cheyenne Hope and Allison Robinson will always cherish the memories created with Monty.

In his circle of friends, Monty will be remembered for his warm presence. Often seen sharing a favorite beer with friends at the end of the day, he valued these moments of camaraderie.  Monty's sister asks that his friends gather together and lift a glass in his memory.
