Fred "Max" Sams

Fred “Max” Sams passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. He was born on August 1, 1958, in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Fred E. Sams and Sara P. Sams.

Max enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and especially treasured spending time with his family and many friends. He loved boating and fishing, feeding the birds, and working in his yard. Time spent outdoors and with the people he cared about brought him great happiness. He worked for Fairway Outdoor Advertising, where he served as a supervisor for many years before retiring.

Max is survived by his loving wife, Peggy J. Sams; his grandson, Holden Brewington; his sister, Anna H. Rodrigue (Rex); and his brother, Gene Lawter (Kim).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Michael E. Sams and Mark S. Sams.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The family will receive friends and greet guests following the graveside service.
