Frances “Fran” Gambrell, Of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away on Friday. May 16, 2025.
Fran, as she was affectionately known, was born in Rock Hill, South Carolina the daughter of the late Douglas Burton Allen and the late Rhetta McLeod Allen.
Fran was a graduate of TL Hanna High School in Anderson, South Carolina and earned her undergraduate degree form Charleston Southern University. She later earned her master’s degree from The Citadel. Fran had a successful career in education and retired in 2002 as a Guidance Counselor.
Fran will be remembered for her distinctive laugh and kind heart for others. She was a very organized person and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She was an avid reader and very artistic. You could find her painting or working in her flower garden for relaxation. Fran was an animal lover and had many cats over the years. She and her husband often referred to them as their children. But most of all she was a loving wife to her husband, Steve, for 57 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Fran’s many memories are her devoted husband: Steve Gambrell; a brother: Doug Allen Jr; niece: Wendy Easter (Danny); a nephew: Doug Allen III. A special friend and her husband, Stacey and Ray Johnson, also survive.
A celebration of life gathering will be held in her honor on Saturday, June 7th, 2025, 2:00 pm-4:00 pm at Floyd Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. You are cordially invited to join the family in celebrating a life well lived.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for memorial contributions made in Fran’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson’s Foundation, or Spartanburg Humane Society.
