Faye Boukedes, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, at the Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum, SC. She was born on October 10, 1934, and was the daughter of Hershel and Ada McSwain.
As told by her children, Faye was the matriarch of the family, living 29 years past the love of her life, Jimmy. They met while she was working at the hospital which was across the street from Jimmy’s Restaurant, and he courted her by bringing lunch over from the restaurant. They only knew each other a few short months before they were married.
She was a stay-at-home mom during the years her children were at home and lived most of her life in the home that was built when the children were born. She was known to open her home for all of their friends to gather, and was a mom to a whole generation of kids who grew up in Spartanburg. She loved to bake and make the homemade desserts for Jimmy’s Restaurant.
She was a lifelong member of Fernwood Baptist Church and an active member of the Alma Hudson Sunday School class. She loved to cook and to deliver meals, and enjoyed being a part of the Hospitality Team at Fernwood.
Her fondest memories were when her children and their families would come to Spartanburg for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The grandchildren grew up spending every big holiday together at her home. She treasured the summers at her home on Lake Bowen, especially the week of the 4th of July. She loved sitting on the porch as much as she enjoyed boating and the water. As she aged and eventually turned the lake house over to her son Greg, he kept a bedroom open for her anytime she wanted to come.
Later in life, she enjoyed working part-time jobs, especially her years as a greeter at Floyd’s Mortuary. She loved Spartanburg and lived there for over 70 years.
She loved to watch her hummingbirds and made beautiful quilts for the grands and the great grands. She loved her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren more than life itself. They all adored her and drove hours to visit her on a regular basis. We are so grateful they were all able to come and say goodbye, when we knew the end was near.
In true form, she let us know when she was ready to go and where she wanted to be. And we are forever thankful that the Hospice House had a room for her, and for the comfort and love they gave to her and our family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Boukedes, brother, William Thomas McSwain, sister, Jean Gosnell and good friend, James Tate.
She is survived by one son, Greg Boukedes (Nancy) of Inman, SC, two daughters, Suzette Hodge (Mark) of Athens, GA, and Jaymie Salley (Bill) of Greenville, SC, two step-daughters, Brooke Simpson (AJ) of Spartanburg, SC and Kristen Brown (Hunter) of Spartanburg, SC, 7 grandchildren, Bo, Jennifer, Will, Ellis, Thomas, Marcus and Kyle, 10 great-grandchildren, Harper, Harrison, Graham, Edie, Fallon, Mia, Watson, Zeigler, Caroline and Wyatt and 2 step- great-grandchildren, Riggs and Sarah.
A service celebrating Faye’s life will be held on February 7, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC. We invite all who knew and loved her to join the family in honoring her memory. They will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. with the service following at 11:00 a.m. The family will have a private burial following the service.
