Evelyn Lynette Tolbert, 77, of Gaffney, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Known lovingly as Lynette, she was born in Athens, Georgia, and was the daughter of the late Darrell Mattox and Helen Rautenburg Mattox. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, James Daniel Tolbert.
Lynette retired after 35 years of dedicated service as a unit secretary in the Labor and Delivery Department at Lexington Medical Center, where she built lifelong friendships and truly considered her coworkers family. She attended Manna Baptist Church, where her brother David serves as pastor. She found simple joy in crime shows, good books, and quiet moments at home. More than anything, she treasured her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and happiness.
Lynette was a unique soul who knew exactly who she was and stayed true to that, always. The people she loved, she loved deeply - often silently, but fiercely and faithfully. She was a devoted mother and sister, a loyal friend, and a steady presence for those fortunate enough to know her. Her love was not loud, but it was constant, and it will echo through the lives she touched.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melissa “Missy” Hydrick; her daughter-in-law,
Cheryl Tolbert (Bubba); grandchildren Jaimie Danielle Cooper (Brandon), Emma Lee Regina
Tolbert (Chase), and Carsyn Reneé Hydrick (fiancé Marcus Contreras); great-grandchildren Winter and Summer Cooper; sisters Reneé Martin (Neal) and Valerie Platt (Joel); brother Pastor David Mattox (Dianne); and her cherished cat, Charm.
Lynette’s gentle spirit, quiet strength, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
