Evelyn West Thomas

Mrs. Evelyn West Thomas, 96, died Sunday, July 2, 2023, at White Oak Estates. A native of Spartanburg County, she was born on February 23, 1927, a daughter of the late John and Louise Story West and the widow of the late Billy Cohen Thomas, Sr. 

She was a 50-year member of Ben Avon Baptist Church and retired after 45 years of service as a school crossing guard, first at Freemont Elementary School and then Houston Elementary School. 

Surviving is one son, Steven M. Thomas (Nancy), two granddaughters, Lisa Lytle (Sean) and Christy Thompson (James), Four Great Grandchildren, Lisabeth Lytle, Noah Lytle, Katie Lytle and Lucy Lytle. 

Four Brothers, Gary West, Neal West, Tom West and Wayne West. She was predeceased by a son, Billy C. Thomas, Jr. two sisters, Blanche Pruitt and Grace Eaves, Four brothers, Homer West, Lester West, Alvin West and Cary West. 

Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 conducted by the Rev. Dr. Jason Metcalf. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
