Ernest Wade McMahan, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, went home to be with the Lord on September 17, 2026.
Born on April 9, 1947, Ernest was the son of the late Julian McMahan and Blanche Willard McMahan of Woodruff, South Carolina.
Ernest proudly served his country for many years. He served six years in the United States Army, followed by 27 years in the Army National Guard’s 228th Signal Brigade, retiring after 33 years of combined military service. Ernest was a proud Shriner and Mason . He also retired from Spartanburg County Fleet Services.
Ernest is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Dodson of Pacolet, South Carolina; his granddaughter, Emily Spake of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and Emily’s beloved dog, Jameson, who held a special place in Ernest’s heart.
The family would also like to recognize Dennis Horton, a very close family friend, and Wyatt Dodson, whose kindness, support, and willingness to help Ernest and his family, especially during Ernest’s final days, will always be remembered with heartfelt gratitude.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Spartanburg Regional Healthcare Hospice Home for their exceptional care.
Ernest’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, including his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
