Spartanburg
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ellen Nuzum Wetmore, 75, of Pauline, SC. After a 23 year battle with cancer, Ellen passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026 at the SRI Hospice Home, surrounded by family.
Born May 15, 1951, in Newton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Elenore Nuzum. The oldest of four siblings, she graduated from Bandy’s High School in 1969. She went on to attend Western Carolina University where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1973, then receiving her Masters +30 from the University of South Carolina and her National Board Certification. Ellen was a beloved teacher for 44 years, most of which were at Pauline-Glenn Springs Elementary School. After retiring from teaching, she was the co-owner of Showoffs Kids Boutique in Spartanburg for almost a decade. She was an active member of Roebuck Methodist Church.
She spent the last 36 years with her beloved husband, Gene Wetmore, enjoying life on Lake Zimmerman. Ellen will be forever remembered for her creative artistic ability, cheering for the Atlanta Braves, a lover of Christmas and all things Santa, and making her delicious onion dip! Time with family at Lake Murray and annual trips to Ocean Isle Beach, NC are cherished memories we will forever keep.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Julie Forrester.
She is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Sanders and husband Brian, and Allison Sumerel and husband Brad, all of Spartanburg; stepdaughter Blair Clementson and husband Charles of Spartanburg; stepson Andrew Wetmore and wife Leslie of Union; sister Carol Sharpe and husband Freddy, of Catawba, NC; brother Blair Nuzum and wife Jadey of New London, NC; four grandchildren, Ellie Sumerel, Matilda Sanders, Emory Sumerel, and Henry Sanders; four stepgrandchildren, Trent Wetmore, Abby Clementson, Charlotte Clementson, and Charlie Clementson; step great grandson Camron Wetmore; and many loving nieces and a nephew.
