Ellen Christine Plemmons Stephens, 95, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. A native of Spartanburg, she was born on April 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Leah Plemmons and wife of the late Rev Herbert Stephens, Jr.
Mrs. Stephens was a graduate of Spartanburg High School, a commissioned Salvation Army Officer serving several appointments in North Carolina and South Carolina. She was a very active ministers wife serving at her husband’s side in the United Methodist Church and a minister herself.
Surviving are his son, Larry H. Stephens (Elaine); daughter, Tracy Lancaster (Lynn); grandsons, Kevin G. Stephens (Gina) Mitchell Lancaster (Abby); great grandchildren, Allie Stephens and Henry Lancaster, along with three step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Barron. She was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Stephens, sisters, Agnes Smith and Margie Bates.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Monday, April 1, 2024, in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg 29307 conducted by the Rev. Chris Allen of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
