Duke Curtis Nivens

Duke Curtis Nivens, age 87, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Born August 16, 1936, in Statesville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Joe Monroe Nivens and Elizabeth Guin Nivens.

Duke Curtis Nivens aka "Grandy" graduated from Spartanburg High School and attended Clemson College. He then served in the United States Army as Military Police. He also served as an Aide to General T. Heath. He was highly committed to serving his country and protecting the freedom we all enjoy today. He was  employed with Phillip's Fibers for 37 years as a Quality Control Specialist.

He has been married to the love of his life, Clare Jane McAbee Nivens, for 63 years. He was a great Shag Dancer, where he along with his wife were placed in the "Shag Dance" Hall of Fame in Myrtle Beach, S.C. His ability as great storyteller would keep you engaged until the end. He also had the gift of being a talented artist, bringing his artwork to life through his anointed touch.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clare Jane Nivens; daughters Angela Nivens, and Tracy (David) Davenport. Grandchildren; RJ (Lindsay) Davenport, Drew (Tristan) Davenport, and Jade Cravens. Two Great Grandchildren; Tristan and Remi Davenport. Brothers; Donald (Katherine) Nivens and David Nivens. His sister; Francis Culbertson, and many loving nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his sisters; Joan McNeill and Juanita Perry

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 12:50 p.m., Wednesday, January 24,2024 at The Floyd's Mortuary Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 20307. His funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Entombment will be private.
