The Rev. Dr. Johnnie Dale Roach, 60, of Moore, SC died Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born March 29, 1961 in Rutherford County, NC, he was the son of Helen Teague Roach of Marion, NC and the late Rev. J. Kenneth Roach.
Dale earned his BA from Gardner-Webb University, his Masters from Southeastern Seminary and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Southern Seminary.
The Senior Pastor for five and a half years at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, he also pastored churches in North and South Carolina for 40 years as Youth, Associate and Senior Pastor. A former Director of Missions in Lancaster, SC for the Moriah Baptist Association for seven years. A man of God, devoted to his Lord, family and Church family. Dale was a published author and had a heart for servant leadership, leadership development and teamwork. Dale lived his faith daily and was eager to share the good news of the Gospel. He was a talented sculptor and artist. Dale was wise and understood God’s ways. He proved it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. (James 3:13)
Survivors include his wife, Shelley Rushing Roach, his sons, John Roach of John’s Island, SC and Alex Roach (Katelyn) of Lancaster, SC, his daughter, Elizabeth Hammond (Garrett) of Lancaster, SC, his grandchildren, Jack Roach, Maryn Reese Hammond, and Baby Girl Roach (expected in January), his brother, The Rev. Terry Roach (Shelley) of Marion, NC, and his sister, Greta Modlin (Gray) of Raleigh, NC, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be 12:00 – 1:45 PM Friday, October 15, 2021 at Poplar Springs Baptist Church, 790 Hwy. 417, Moore, SC 29369. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 PM at the church, conducted by The Rev. Terry Roach, The Rev. Scott McClellan and The Rev. Dr. Chuck Lawless. A private burial of ashes will be at a later date.
Masks are strongly suggested and encouraged.
