Douglas Eugene Satterfield

Douglas Eugene Satterfield, 92, of Roebuck, South Carolina passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Douglas was born in Lyman, South Carolina, the son of the late Howard B Satterfield and the late Bertha Nelms Satterfield. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Virginia Wingo Satterfield; also, a son: Michael Douglas Satterfield.

Douglas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from Clemson University in August of 1955, where he was also a member of the Cadet Corp. Douglas joined the firm of Chapman & McMillan, then became a partner of Chapman, McMillan & Satterfield. Eventually, the firm became McMillan & Satterfield. That firm merged in 1992 and became McMillan, Smith and Partners, Architects. He retired in 1996 after a 35-year career.

Douglas was an avid Clemson football fan and attended the games frequently. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of Three Pines Country Club for several years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and everyone that had the pleasure of knowing him.

Douglas is survived by a daughter: Julie S Elder (Steven) of Lyman, SC; and by a son: Stephen Eugene Satterfield of Roebuck, SC; two granddaughters: Mackenzie Visage (Chris) of Greer, SC and Sydney Alexis Elder of Charleston, SC; and one great granddaughter; Harper James Visage.

A graveside service to honor Douglas’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood – Glendale Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wren Hospice or Brookstone Terrace of Woodruff.

Douglas’s memories will continue to live in the hearts of his family and friends.
