Doris O. Toney, beloved mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Though her family’s hearts are heavy, they find peace in knowing she is now resting in the arms of her Savior.
Born to the late Alvin Cooper and Arizona Robinson, Doris was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph “JP” Toney; her grandson, TJ; and two brothers, Harold Cooper and Billy Cooper.
Doris spent many years working in the textile industry, including at Startex. She was a longtime and faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church and later attended Full Salvation Church and Church 247. Her love for the Lord was evident in the way she lived her life. Her strong faith guided her through every season, and she loved the Lord with all her heart.
To know Doris was to know warmth, kindness, and comfort. She treasured the home she lived in for over 60 years, where countless memories were made riding her golf cart around the neighborhood with her beloved cat, Oreo, by her side. She enjoyed playing Uno, attending auctions, laughing with friends, and spending precious time with her family. She was lovingly known as “Nanny” to most who knew and loved her.
One of the greatest blessings of Doris’s life was the special friendship she shared with her dear friend of more than 60 years, Mrs. Lois Moore.
Family meant everything to Doris. She adored her grandchildren, Tim, Christy, Crystal, and the late TJ. She was also blessed with 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One of the greatest joys of her life was her special bond with her great-grandson, Malachi, who was truly her pride and joy.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving daughters, Debbie Teal (W.F.) of Cowpens, SC, and Wanda Waddell (friend Rick) of Spartanburg, SC; along with her extended family, dear friends, and the many people whose lives were touched by her gentle spirit and loving heart.
While her family grieves her passing, they rejoice in God’s promise that this is not goodbye forever. Doris has simply gone ahead to her heavenly home, where there is no pain, only peace, joy, and everlasting life with the Lord she faithfully served. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM until 12:45 PM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the chapel. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
