Donald West

Donald C. West, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born November 4, 1930, in Sulphur Springs, Upper Union County, SC, he was the son of the late Herbert James West, Sr. and Beatrice West. Mr. West was retired from Mahan Oven & Engineering Co., Inc. where he was founding partner and president. He was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including deacon, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was past-president of the Spartanburg Lions Club and served as a District Governor and a Melvin Jones Fellow. Elected in 1970, he served as commissioner of Woodruff-Roebuck Water District until his death. Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Helen O'Shields West; sons, Mike West (Sandra), Mark West (Karen), and Bob West (Jayne); grandchildren, Karilyn Parker (Derek), Kandace Schoelen (Jason), Matthew West, Bert West, and Jack West; and great-grandchildren, Weston Parker, Jase Schoelen, and Reid Schoelen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings: Ruby Lawson, Mary Kirby, Vivian Lawson, H. J. West, Jr., Robert West, Oscar West, Evelyn Elliot, and Jenny Cunningham. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Saturday, December 23, 2017, at Roebuck Baptist Church, 1979 E. Blackstock Rd., Roebuck, SC 29376 with funeral services following at 11:00 AM, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Tim Williams and The Rev. Curtis Pettit. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
